Summer Course 2013

Our thanks to Tanya Cochrane for the photos below.  Click on each one to enlarge.
Braeside Manor, Wiltshire

Superstrings spent 5 days at Braeside for their Summer Festival of music making.  The 52 participants, from across the country, were aged between 6 and 18 and spent the days together playing in one of two Orchestras and as a member of a Chamber Group.  Under the guidance of local artist Sandra Bull the younger students created art work and did creative movement with Dalcroze specialist, Charlotte White.

The older students, who were resident at Braeside for the week, enjoyed the great facilities there including the high ropes, table football and a bonfire.  Evenings were spent playing chamber music with the team of highly sought after string teachers. They were also led in improvisation sessions by ex-Superstringer and violinist, Tobias Tripp, who is currently a student at the Royal Welsh College of Music.

The course culminated in 2 wonderful Concerts.  The first, a Chamber Music concert, was performed by our very youngest to very oldest students.  The older students performing excerpts from Vivalidi's The Four Seasons, which they had the great privilege of working with Maggie Faultless during the Course.

The following day saw the Grand Finale at St Joseph's School where each Orchestra performed.  The Course culminated in a rousing performance of Coldplay's Viva La Vida with both Orchestras joining forces ... a force to be reckoned with!
Feedback

Maggie Faultless says "I had a terrific day with you and hope that I contributed something interesting to the Course.  It is really incredible what you are all achieving with so many kids - really inspiring".

"This has probably been the best Superstrings Course ever!! There have been so many good things ... I've improved my playing in Orchestra.  The Chamber Concert went well and I thought our final perormances was epic.  What's more the talent show was brilliant as there was so much talent! I thank Liz and everyone for a great 5 days and I will miss the kind people here so much!"  (A Student)

"Superstrings is brilliant!"  (A Student)

"What a fantastic week! The music making, fun and camaraderie were all second to none.  The expertise of the String Teachers was amazing - it brought out the best in every student!"  Roseanne Jardine (Dalcroze specialist)

And from one of our Tutors:

"This is the best part of being a Teacher.  Watching and listening to the young people raising their game and playing with passion.  Fab!  Thanks as well too Maggie who inspired us all"  (Daphne Moody)
